From a side view you can see how the 1934 Hudson Terraplane perfected the art deco design that was all the rage in that period of history. With its muscular stance, the Terreplane was actually more powerful than the 65 horsepower Ford V8. It is said that the Terraplane could go 100 miles per hour because of its power to weight ratio. The six cylinder engine produced 70 horsepower.
A private party seller from Portland, Oregon listed his prized 1934 Hudson Terraplane for sale this week. (Hudson collectors who watch our Hudson Section online every week will be thrilled.) It is well portrayed in a Slide Show ad with multiple photos of the undercarriage. For all the patina, you can see that this car is amazingly solid. There is definitely a restoration in its future, but there could be no better example to restore. The seller says it is a “reliable driver.” While the chrome is remarkably original, it is in need of replating. He says the wheels are reproductions of factory originals. He also states that the original mileage is 60,300.
Although it was still called an Essex-Terraplane in 1933, by 1934 they dropped the Essex brand name and it became just a “Terreplane.” Hudson built this model between 1932 and 1938 in Detroit. It was medium priced, a little more expensive than a Ford or Chevrolet, but not as high priced as a Packard or Cadillac. The Terreplane was way ahead of its time in innovative technology. In 1935 they developed the “Electric Hand,” a vacuum-electric gear shift selector that pre-dated the automatic transmission. It also used a Baker articulated independent front suspension.
There is a lot to appreciate in this 1934 Hudson Terraplane shown here. The accentuated “shovel nose” look was ground breaking for its era. And the sweep of the front to rear fenders made it look fast just standing still. If there is a car worth preserving for historic value it is this ’34 Terraplane.

Porsche at the Petersen
Although the biggest Porsche Museum is in Stuttgart, Germany, there is a temporary home for Porsche here in the U.S. at the Petersen Museum in Los Angeles. Featured on the Industry Floor of the Petersen Museum is a display called “We Are Porsche” that will inspire Porsche lovers. Ever since Max Hoffman brought Porsche cars to America there has been a devoted cult following among Americans who march to a different drum. From the rear engined phenom called the 356 to the stalwart 911, Porsche has consistently provided performance and sometimes status to American connoisseurs. The exhibit, which celebrates 75 years of Porsche, will run through April 2024. Here is a link to the Petersens’s “teaser” page for their Porsche exhibit.

1969 AMC SC/Rambler
Being small sometimes has its benefits. Very few of the Big Three’s muscle cars could out perform American Motors’ 1969 AMC SC/Rambler tuned by Hurst Performance. There were two paint schemes used by AMC. The early cars are now referred to as the “A scheme” with the flashy arrow on the hood. Later came the more conservative “B scheme”, all white with red and blue stripes along the sides. They made 1,215 “A scheme” cars, but only 297 “B schemes.” The one you see here is the “B scheme”, a 1969 AMC SC/Rambler being offered for sale today at Streetside Classics in Fort Worth, Texas. It has a 390 ci V8 with a 4-speed manual and a Hurst shifter. Extras which were standard on these cars included front disc brakes, a heavier sway bar, staggered shocks, anti-hop rear axle links, race-spec mirrors and sharp looking Magnum 500 color matching wheels.
J Code Thunderbird
Here is one you don’t see very often, and you will have to move fast to get a shot at it. This is a 1959 Ford Thunderbird J Code Convertible. The J Code indicates a 430 ci V8 engine, designed by Ford to compete in NASCAR that year. It is being offered for sale this week at Unique Classic Cars in Mankato, Minnesota. This Salmon (pink) T-Bird is rare on so many levels. Someone added a cool Tonneau over the back seats like a later model M Code Thunderbird would have. With the Continental kit, this ’59 T-Bird has a look all its own.
Hemi Satellite
You don’t find a 1966 Plymouth Satellite 426 Hemi car very often. After all, they only made 314 of them. To find one this nice with documentation is amazing. The private party seller is from North Carolina. With a complete rotisserie restoration already done, he declares this a “correct date coded Hemi Mopar muscle car.” He says the under carriage is restored equal to the top end. You can see the photos in his Slide Show ad. This is what a complete professional resstoration should look like. Grab a cold one and pull up a chair. This one is worth looking at.

Born to be collectible, this 2002 Camaro 35th Anniversary Edition was to be the final year of the Camaro. Many bought them as collector items even way back in 2002. This one was one of them. It remains with only 9,104 original miles, says the private party seller from Florida. Now that it is time to sell, some lucky buyer will inherit the franchise. It comes with T-tops and cold air conditioning. Owner needs to downsize.

1909 Maxwell Touring
One of the oldest cars on our website today is this 1909 Maxwell Model A Touring car which was listed by Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles. This California car is equipped with a convertible soft top, four-spoke steering wheel, engine hand crank handle, an extra parts on the side. It is a remarkable opportunity to acquire a true museam piece. The buyer should note that it is not currently running and would need a skilled technician to bring it back to life safely. If you can get it running it would be a trophy worth your effort.

1971 Dodge Dart Swinger
A 1971 Dodge Dart Swinger Mopar muscle car was listed for sale by a Canadian collector. He says there are less than 200 miles on a professionally built 360 stroker motor boosting an estimated 450 hp. That makes this little Dart a “rocket.” He says it is now turnkey and ready. And he just dropped the price from $47,777 to $39,777. I think you’ll agree that its a lotta’ car for the money.

Muscle Car Clones
1964 Ford Thunderbolt
One of the cars which was just posted for the upcoming GAA Classic Car Auction in Greensboro, NC next month is a recreation of the legendary 1964 Ford Thunderbolt. It will be auctioned off to the highest bidder when the gavel comes down. It is presented in the livery of the car Len Richter piloted to the AHRA Championship in 1964. It was featured in the movie, The 1320. You will find it to be very authentic and true right down to the scattershield. The auction will be held April 25-27, 2024.

1955 Ford Thunderbird
Cars-On-Line readers have heard us say it before. “If you can find a nice first generation Thunderbird for under $30,000 … buy it.” Beverly Hills Car Club has one for sale this week that might just punch your ticket. It is a red 1955 Ford Thunderbird with Tuxedo black and white interior. They say it is mechanically sound and it looks good in the photos. It would be a good one to have inspected. But hurry. It will be our Deal of the Day on Sunday if it lasts that long. The asking price is $19,950. Do you have the phone in your hands yet?
1958 Dodge Coronet
This one might be a little more of a project car than a full on classic, but look how rare it is. This is a 1958 Dodge Coronet from Minneapolis, Minnesota. How long has it been since you’ve seen one of these? It has the 318 Poly V8, 3-speed Torqueflite automatic transmission with push button shifting. The private party seller says it is a one owner originally from North Dakota. It comes with the original dealer paperwork. You should have it inspected before you buy. There are no photos of the undercarriage on this one. But hurry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. The price? Only $14,000.
1952 Ford Crestline Victoria
This is another great find being offered by Country Classic Cars in Illinois. It is a 1952 Ford Crestline Victoria 2-Door Hardtop powered by a Flathead V8 engine and mated to an automatic transmission. It rolls on a new set of American Racing Torque Thrust wheels and the rear fender skirts are in the trunk. They say the interior and exterior are both in very good condition, and that it starts, runs, and drives very strong. Click here to review a walk-around video and hear it run. With only 42,896 miles on the odometer, this Grigio Alfieri Maserati looks so elegant and comes with a bevy of features.
