Beauty Meets Performance
You can argue about which muscle cars are the most powerful, fastest or most race worthy, but there is little doubt that the most stunningly visual car to come out of the muscle car era was the GTO Judge. From the exciting new Endura front bumper to the rear spoiler, this car roared “performance.” A select few of the GTO Judge models were born with the Ram Air IV 400 engine package, much sought after by drag racers of the era. Now those cars are among the most sought after muscle cars in today’s collector car market. Only 325 Ram Air IV GTO Judge hardtops were produced in 1970. Today they remain the rarest muscle cars to find.
When an Atoll Blue 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge Ram Air IV hardtop was listed for sale by RK Motors Charlotte we knew we had to feature it here. Rarely do you come across one in this condition and pedigree. Shortly after its frame off restoration (1999) it was awarded the Concourse Silver Award by the GTO Association of America. In 2006 it was featured on the cover of Cars And Parts magazine with cover story inside. RK Motors Charlotte tells us it comes with documentation, including a build sheet, past owner history, PHS invoice, a reproduction window sticker and a binder with notes. They say the car was sold originally at McAfee Pontiac in Miamisburg, Ohio with a build date of December 8, 1969 at the Pontiac Assembly Plant.
A Ram Air IV 400 had the 614 heads, special intakes and exhaust manifolds along with a performance camshaft. Not even the Pontiac 455 had those long branch manifolds. The round port GTO RA IV put out 370 horsepower at 5,500 rpm, according to the brochures. But you knew that horsepower was underated for the insurance company’s benefit.
The incredible Ram Air IV GTO Judge came with an M21 close ratio 4-speed transmission (rebuilt during the restoration); a G80 Safety-T-Track 3.55 posi rearend; Y96 suspension supported with Firestone Wide Oval Super Sport tires on N98 PMD Rally II wheels. NOS parts include, Judge rear wing, T-3 headlights, quarters, fenders, one door, hood, decklid, hood tach and taillights. New carpet, door panels, seat coverings, package tray, headliner and sail panels were sourced from AMES.
A real Ram Air IV GTO Judge is priceless to a Pontiac collector. It was the fastest GTO you could buy in 1970. Pontiac produced it to compete with the big block 454 and 455 GM cars of the era. Ram Air IV’s in this type of condition have gone for big money at national auctions. Thank goodness this one is more humbly priced.

Inspection Report
When a New Jersey buyer asked us to inspect a classic 1970 AMC AMX muscle car for him in Wisconsin. His concern was about which condition class to peg it in. The car was a “barn find” so he wanted to know where “the rust and rot was.” Was it a low Number 3 Condition Class that runs and drives but needs some cosmetic work short of a full restoration? Or was it a low Number 4 Condition Class that needs a lot of panel replacement and structural repair? There was much to consider as there always is in the pursuit of a “barn find.” The inspector seemed to be overall impressed with the body panels and structural integrity of the AMX. There were some troublesome discoveries along the way, mostly little things like the window regulators and horn not working. You can read the entire report here.
The first item on a buyer’s “To Do” list should be to contact the Cars-On-Line Inspection Service. Buying a collector car is much different than buying a new or used late model car. It is always a “buyer beware” type of sale. With a network of inspectors all over the U.S. and Canada, your first line of protection in any sale is a COL Collector Car Inspection. Learn more about collector car inspections when you read our COL Inspection Referral Service page.

1966 Aston Martin DB6
Although James Bond never drove an Aston Martin DB6 (he drove a DB5 in Goldfinger) he would have found it an improvement. When Gullwing Motor Cars out of Astoria, New York posted this 1966 Aston Martin DB6 this week we had a chance to note the differences. The side profile is different and the DB6 has a 3.75-inch longer wheelbase. The Kammback tail on the DB6 is a little longer and more defined. And the interior comfort was noticeable on the DB6. Both cars handled well, but the DB6 was the bridge to the Vantage and made for improved performance. Gullwing notes that this rare DB6 has the preferred manual 5-speed gearbox. Nicely optioned this DB6 is left-hand drive for the US market and comes in the desirable British Racing Green exterior with Connolly leather. What a find!
Lincoln Zephyr
Here is a treasure that you don’t find very often. Unique Classic Cars out of Mankato, Minnesota just listed this 1939 Lincoln Zephyr Convertible for sale. It is so new to their inventory that they don’t even have the description written yet. The fact is that this car is so desirable it might sell before they even write the description. Hurry, and see the photos. Call them right away before this one gets away. They say Lincoln named the Zephyr after a Greek wind god because of its aerodynamic features. The Zephyr remains one of the most beautiful automotive designs, and is a target of car collectors all over the world. Grab a phone and call Unique Classic Cars or you’ll miss out on this one.
Premium RV
As motorhomes go, the high end RV units start with Prevost. But here is a 2015 Entegra Cornerstone RV that may top even the premium Prevost. It is being offered for sale this week by Classic Car Liquidators out of Sherman, Texas. Check out the photos. Most of us do not have a house this nice. The list of features seems endless. From the three (3) 15k BTU ducted air conditioning units to the elite leather loungers, this recreational vehicle is over the top in luxury. It has two slide outs, full length electric awnings, electric fireplace, Aqua Hot system for hot water, power privacy blinds, complete entertainment system inside and out and much more. Life is just a dream.

Deals of the Day
1978 Camaro
Beverly Hills Car Club came up with a ton of fresh listings this week. Many of them are at a discount to their market values. Here is one. It is a 1978 Camaro Custom in black over black. With an aggressive and sporty stance, this original blue-plate California car comes with a V8 engine, front disc brakes, Rochester Quadrajet 4-barrel carburetor, power steering, dual exhaust, rear spoiler, Mickey Thompson tires and Weld racing wheels. Beverly Hills Car Club attests to its powerful performance. They say it is “mechanically sound” so it will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. Their asking price is $12,750.
1954 Packard Clipper
Country Classic Cars out of Staunton, Illinois is back in the DEAL of the DAY again this week with an outstanding find. This 1954 Packard Clipper Panama is said to be a “beautiful example” of a two-door hardtop. They say it is in great condition and has already gone through a restoration about 8 years ago. This Packard is powered by the straight 8-cylinder engine mated to an automatic transmission. The interior has been refinished in black and red. Click this link to view a walk-around video and hear it run. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. Their asking price is $16,450. Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about. Hurry on this one.
1931 Ford Model A
Make note that Classical Gas Motors has said that this 1931 Ford Model A Tudor Sedan is all original and painted black as Henry would have done. They say it has “rust free steel throughout.” While the stock bumpers are not perfect, they do show the “survivor” quality of this original Ford. All the glass is there and they say it has no cracks or issues. The large chrome headlights are “working properly.” Lift the hood and you will find a factory numbers matching original 4 cylinder motor. They think the 4 cylinder motor may have been overhauled. Click this link to watch a video to prove it starts, runs and drives well. The best part is the price. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. Their asking price is $17,900.
1976 Alfa Romeo 2000
Beverly Hills Car Club had quite a few two-seater imported sports cars in their inventory this week. This one is the best priced of the lot. This is a 1976 Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Veloce, a very desirable Italian sports car. White with tan leather, it is equipped with a 5-speed transmission, inline 4 cylinder engine, Spica mechanical fuel injection, Jaeger instruments, 4-wheel disc brakes, a detachable hardtop, Cromodora wheels and General XP 2000 tires. They indicate that it is well appointed and is said to be “mechanically sound.” Have it inspected before you buy, but hurry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday. The asking price is $11,750.
1963 Impala
The Chevrolet Impala had a distinctive rear valance that one year only in 1963. That is why so many people like the ’63 best. Here is a 1963 Chevrolet Impala 4-Door Hardtop which is being offered for sale through the Classic Auto Mall in Pennsylvania. They say it is a driver qualilty collector car with a rebuilt front end and newer body mounts. Chrome bumpers look good, and the brightwork is all useable the way it is. It has American Racing Torque Thrust wheels as it stands now. However, you may find rust bubbles and other issues with the paint. You should have it inspected before you buy to get a full report. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday. Their asking price is $19,900.
1968 Corvette Custom
Whether you’re taking this Corvette to the track or simply cruising down the open road you’ll thrill to the custom aesthetics of this classic 1968 Corvette. It still has the timeless design elements that made Corvette an automotive icon. Yet you should note that this car will need some cosmetic work, and most likely the new owner will want to restore it to their own taste. Be sure to have a pre-purchase inspection done on this one to make sure you know what you are getting into. One feature is the roll bar, but it also comes with a V8 engine and a 4-speed manual transmission, Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor, power steering and 4-wheel disc brakes. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later in the week. Their asking price is $19,950.
1973 Mercedes 450SL
With quite a few classic Mercedes SL sports cars in the New Listings this week, we thought this one was the best deal for today. Gullwing Motor Cars out of Astoria, New York posted a 1973 Mercedes-Benz 450SL at a very affordable price point. They tell us it is an “honest original example” with 120k miles on it. It comes with two tops, both a soft top and an auxiliary hardtop. This tannish yellow color was very popular for Mercedes back then. They say it runs and drives but would benefit from servicing and “minor cosmetics.” You should have it inspected before you buy. But hurry. This 450SL luxury sports car will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week. Their asking price is just $10,950.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
