Very Rare Bird

F-Code Thunderbird

One of the rarest of all American sports cars is the 1957 Ford Thunderbird F-Code with a supercharged 312 ci V8 engine, the hottest engine in America for its day. We discovered this rare Bird among the dozens of new listings from Streetside Classics in Charlotte, North Carolina this week. They really found an amazing Rock N Roll classic to offer for sale. You may not find one again in your lifetime. We can’t overstate how important this listing is.

Streetside tells us this legendary 1957 Ford Thunderbird F-Code Convertible is dressed in its Raven Black finish with a Showshoe White auxiliary hardtop and fully restored Flame red interior. Check out how the wheels look in the photos. Great design.

They say the 312 ci V8 engine is original to the car. That is important because under the hood you will see a marvel of its time … the McCulloch/Paxton VR57 centrifugal supercharger, noted as an F Code in Ford terminology. This was Ford’s statement to the world that it was a leader in performance technology. The 3-speed manual tranmission has electric overdrive. The F Code also has four wheel power brakes combined with power steering.

Click here to view a walk-around video tour.

They believe there were 212 F-Code Thunderbirds produced. The list price was $4,815 so they were very expensive for that time. The records show that 53 of the F-Birds were produced in Raven Black. The F-Code Ford supercharged engine started an “engine arms race” between automotive manufacturers. To a Ford collector the F-Bird is what the ’57 Chevy Convertible is to Chevy collectors.

Motorama 2024

The Cadillac & LaSalle Club Potomac Region Caddie Chronicle newsletter is out this week with some interesting news on their Cadillac Club events. They posted this photo of their display at the GM Motorama Recreation during the 2024 Washington, DC Auto Show. According to the newsletter writer, Dan Ruby, the display was well received by car collectors and show goers alike. Click here to read a copy of the newsletter. Cadillacs were always a big draw to the Motorama events of the classic 1950’s. The Potomac Region club is blessed to have members who own many of the star cars of those events. The DC Auto Show was held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, January 19-28, 2024.

Photo Archive

The Revs Institute in Naples, Florida is featuring an historic archive of the works of automotive historian and photographer Andre Van Bever. The Revs Institute has acquired the collection to study and celebrate racing history and culture. They tell us that Van Bever chronicled motor racing history with photos of legendary racers such as Jan Manuel Fangio in the late 1940’s up to Nikki Lauda in 1975. He is one of the most noted “visual witnesses” of post-war automotive racing history. His works were published in many European magazines as well as Car And Driver here in the U.S. His photos often bridged the worlds of automotive race culture and photographic art.

“As a custodian of automotive history, I am delighted to see André Van Bever’s iconic photography find its home at Revs Institute,” says Miles Collier, founder of Revs Institute. “Through his lens, Van Bever’s work has immortalized the rich history of motorsport …” The Revs Institute is more recently regarded as one of the top automotive museums in the world. House in the Naples museum is a collection of 100 influential automobiles that are of historical importance. The Institute also houses an extensive archive of books, periodicals, photos and technical publications dealing with automotive history. It is an 80,000-square foot purpose built facility

1964 Plymouth Belvedere

When a private party seller from Kansas City first listed his 1964 Plymouth Belvedere muscle car, the Hemi powered Mopar caused quite a stir in the Mopar collector world. He was asking $75,000 for the magic Mopar. But just this week he reduced his price to $65,000.

2007 Corvette Convertible

Our readers know that Country Classic Cars out of Staunton, Illinois is a magnet for bargain priced cars. For example, here is a black on black 2007 Corvette Convertible which they say has only 65k original miles. It has a the 6.0L V8 engine produces a crisp 400 horsepower and 400ft-lbs of torque through an automatic transmission that propels you to 60mph in just 4.8 seconds, according to the factory stats. Click here to view a walk-around video. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday because the askiing price is $20,500. That’s a lotta’ car for the money.

1961 Morgan Plus 4

One of the most famous of British two-seater sports cars is the Morgan Plus Four. Here is a 1961 Morgan Plus 4 offered for sale by Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles. They have quite a selection of affordably priced European sports cars for sale this week in our New Listings. The red with a black interior version is said to be a California original car equipped with a 4-speed manual transmission, dual carburetors, a soft top, Tonneau cover and fender mounted side mirrors. Note the wire wheels with knockoff spinners. They tell us it is mechanically sound. (You will want to have it inspected before you buy, as always.) It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The asking price is $26,500.

1954 Ford F100

Another of the Beverly Hills Car Club listings made our DEAL of the DAY feature. Here is a 1954 Ford F100 Pickup, one of Ford’s most popular designs. This one is a mild custom with a lot of updates done under the hood. It is equipped with an automatic transmission, 351C V8 motor, power steering, Weber 4-barrel carburetor, Salt Flat wheels, “Ford” lettering across the tailgate, manual-crank windows, vent windows, dual-side rearview mirrors, sun visors, cigar lighter with an ashtray, dual wipers, and a very comfortable bench seat. They say it comes with service receipts for the motor work. They are offering it at a very affordable price. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. The asking price is $27,500.

1952 Bentley R Type

Here is a right-hand-drive 1952 Bentley R Type Saloon finished in Old English White with a tan interior. The elegant motorcoach was originally a California car, says Beverly Hills Car Club. It is equipped with a manual transmission, inline-six engine, dual carburetors, Smiths instruments, dual exhaust outlets, sunroof, interior wood trim, chrome radiator grille, three-spoke steering wheel, Bentley-branded hub caps, whitewall tires, and folding picnic (Grey Poupon) trays. Beverly Hills Car Club tells us it is equipped with an automatic transmission, V8 engine, Edelbrock carburetor, three-spoke steering wheel, quad exhaust tips, windshield visor, manual-crank windows, vent windows, front/rear bench seats, Pioneer radio, glove box, dome light, and Goodyear Eagle tires. They say it is mechanically sound but you should have it inspected to know the full extent of what you are getting into. This is a well priced car. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday. The asking price is $19,950.

1984 Lincoln Givenchy

A private party seller from New Jersey is offering his 1984 Lincoln Continental Givenchy edition for sale at a low price. You can tell from the photos in the Slide Show ad that this is a Designer Series edition that is special for the price. Lean back in those big sumptuous velour seats and feel the cushioning ride of a Lincoln. The seller says it is serviced and ready to hit the road. He has service records and says the tires have only 5,000 miles. It has all the Lincoln options except a sunroof and power recliners. There are some flaws which he notes in his description. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. The asking price is only $5,000. Now that’s a low price.

1977 AMC Pacer Wagon

Country Classic Cars has one of the most often talked about collector cars. The thought of a 1977 AMC Pacer Wagon puts a smile on every face. It is one of the most peculiar cars ever designed. Although somewhat unloved by new car buyers back in the day, it is a great collector car today by virtue of how rare they are. This one comes from Country Classic Cars in Staunton, Illinois. They say it is a well kept car with a nicely freshened up interior. It comes with a factory installed roof rack and original wheel covers. The six cylinder engine is coupled to an automatic transmission and it has power steering. They say it runs and drives very well. Click here to see a walk-around video and hear it run. It will be our DEAL of the DAY late next week if it lasts that long. The asking price is $9,950.

Sold Thru Cars On Line

Cars are selling well again at this point. It feels like the first stages of the spring market are already happening. Here are some of the comments from happy sellers who were nice enough to tell us about their experience advertising on the Cars On Line website.

Here is one our newsletter readers will remember from the very last newsletter. An advertiser from Katy, Texas had a show winning 1957 Chevrolet Cameo Carrier Pickup for sale with a new color combination. It’s already SOLD.
“Excellent site for selling your vehicle,” he wrote. “Great exposure and easy to find what you’re looking for.”

A private party seller from West Chester, Pennsylvania SOLD his 1930 Ford Model A Pickup. “This is the third vehicle I have sold through Cars-On-Line,” he told us. “This is a great site and works well. Keep it going. Thank you!”

Ken, from Ontario, SOLD his 1969 Dodge Dart Swinger through his Cars-On-Line ad. It looks as though Canadian sellers fair well on Cars-On-Line, too.

Russ called from Grosse Ille, Michigan to tell us that he had SOLD his original Glen Green 1965 Corvette Coupe. He got a pretty good price for the classic Corvette project car. He was real happy. “I should have another one for you to advertise soon,” he said.

A Ford street rod from Peoria, Arizona was priced right to sell. And it did. “The 1940 Ford Coupe has been SOLD,” the private party owner wrote in the Comments section of his ad. “Thank you.”

A Wellburn, Florida collector was please to have SOLD his 2000 Porsche 911 Cabriolet through his Cars-On-Line ad. “I have sold my 2000 Porsche using your venue,” he wrote us in the Comments section of his ad. “Sold 2 days ago.”
