Rare Muscle Car
Uuwhhhh, you won’t see one of these very often. A rarest of the rare Poncho, 1962 Pontiac Catalina Super Duty, was restored by one of the masters. It has a solid lifter 421 ci V8 rated at 405 hp and has the factory aluminum front end package. Rare, rare and rare.
A new advertiser just posted this highly sought after Pontiac muscle car. The Throttlestop out of Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin (home to Road America) just posted this Mandalay Red 1962 Pontiac Catalina Super Duty 421 for sale complete with an aluminum intake manifold with dual 500 cfm Carter carburetors. Rarely seen, the classic Pontiac muscle car is one of only 179 Catalina Super Duties built in 1962. The Super Duty package was a $2,250 option. It was the “king of the streets” that year. Pontiac collectors will tell you nothing could catch it. Motor Trend wrote in a 1962 article that the factory rating of 405 horsepower was well below their own dyno tests which had it pegged at 465 hp. The forged internals were the key to this engine’s success. These cars only came with the 4-speed manual transmission.
The Super Duty Catalina you see here was restored by Super Car Specialties, and they restored it to the highest degree of quality. The Catalina is one of only 45 equipped with the aluminum hood, fenders, inner fenders and bumpers. They say this car is completely numbers matching, a stunning concours quality build. The best part for any buyer, though, is that it runs as good as it looks.
Wanna’ take it for a test drive? Let’s go.

Classic Car News This Week
Kindig-It Corvette
Some amazing cars were sold at the 25th Annual Mecum Auction at Kissimmee last weekend. In the photo, Dave Kindig, a popular custom car designer and TV personality, reacts as his 1953 Corvette CF1 Roadster sells for $770,000. The CF1 Roadster is a limited production custom concept by Kindig-It Design, a reimagining of the first generation Corvette if you will. It was a cause for celebration as Kindig watched heavy bidding for several minutes on this Corvette concept, which was No. 5 in the series. Find out more about this sale by reading the auction report by eClassicAutos.com.

Prices Were Down in 2023
According to a report just published by eClassicAutos.com, collector car prices were down at major auctions in 2023. They said, “Based on comments from dealers and other players in the vintage car business, the overall market for classic cars in 2023 was not as strong as in previous years.” Click here to read their report. That may be the case because they cited evidence from last week’s Mecum Auction at Kissimmee that staples of the collector car world such as this 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible sold for a discount to prices in previous years. It looks like bids on the ’57 Chevy convertibles were down by 9 percent on average this year. So eClassicAutos.com did a pricing study of the cars sold at Kissimmee last week. This is what they found. Click the link to see what some of the other top cars in the hobby were selling for. For instance, bids on first generation T-Birds may have dropped by 37 percent.
Top 10 To Buy
We’ve all gotten lured in by “click bait” articles on the internet about “Top 10” lists that keep you reading till you click on an ad. But here is one by Market Realist that is actually worth reading. Their report on the Top 10 Classic Cars to buy in 2024 is right on the money in one regard. They point out that the 1968 through 1970 AMC AMX is an undervalued collector car (at least pricewise) which will likely increase in value going forward. The 1970 AMC AMX (shown above) is the only 1970 currently listed on the Cars-On-Line.com website. That is unusual and means that there are no longer many left on the market to buy. In 2008 we noted that the average price on an AMX was around $17,000. By 2015 that had risen to $35,000. Market Realist points out that there were only 19,134 AMX’s ever produced. Collector Cars with Low Miles
Royal Bobcat GTO
Our newest member of the COL Dealer Network, The Throttleshop, has an amazing low-mile muscle car which is rare on so many levels. They say this 1965 Pontiac GTO is a real Royal Bobcat, with paperwork showing the Royal Bobcat kit was added in August 1965. What’s more, it was raced and then lost in storage until 2005. So there are still only 15,882 miles on it as of this publication. That is a “WOW” in capital letters! Wanna see a burnout? Click here.
Here are more recent Low Miles additions:
1976 Corvette, North Shore Classics, IL, 29,681 original miles

Deals of the Day
1963 Corvair Convertible
One collector car dealer is really pulling out all the stops in finding affordable collector cars to sell. Country Classic Cars is dominating our DEAL of the DAY feature this week. Here is a Copper colored 1963 Chevrolet Corvair Convertible which they tell us is in nice enough condition to take right to a local car show. Thinking about doin’ some cruising? It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday because the asking price is only $18,000.
1951 Nash Rambler
Here is one you’ve never seen before. It is a 1951 Nash Rambler Airflyte finsihed in taxi cab yellow with a tan sliding soft convertible top. This car came from a private collection of very rare automobiles. The Nash is powered by an inline 6-cylinder engine mated to a 3-speed manual transmission and runs and drives as it should. And the odometer still shows only 54k miles. It will be our Deal of the Day on Sunday. The asking price is $19,900.
1931 Ford 4-Door Sedan
Another interesting find is also from Country Classic Cars out of Staunton, Illinois. This 1931 Ford 4-Door Sedan is a fresh addition to their inventory. They say it runs and drives well. That’s all they have in their descripition however. If you want more info you’ll have to have the car inspected by an independent third party inspection service. I think you’ll agree that it looks good in the photos. (Click the link to view dozens of detailed photos. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. Their price: $13,800.
1955 Plymouth Savoy
A private party seller from California has listed his classic 1955 Plymouth Savoy for sale. An original California black plate car, he says it has “very nice sheet metal.” The motor on this classic car starts right up and purrs. It has an inline 6 cyclinder with 3 speed manual shift on column. He says it drives, shifts and stops fine. He also notes that the brake lights, turn signals, heater, windshield wipers, gauges, and even the AM radio all work. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday. The asking price is $12,900.
1993 Corvette 40th Anniversary
A Corvette special edition that really has held its value over the years is the 1993 Corvette 40th Anniversary Ruby Edition. It was somewhat surprising to see this one coming in for sale this week. The private party seller from Maryland has it listed at a discount to the collector value. What is truly significant about this Anniversary edition is that the seller says it still has super low mileage, with only 19,300 miles showing on the odometer. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday. The asking price is $18,000.
2016 Volvo XC90 T6
When you are looking for a big family sized SUV to haul the whole family and pull a boat or camper behind, you need a special vehicle. That class of SUV includes the Nissan Armada, GMC Yukon, Cadillac Escalade, Toyota Sequoia or the Volvo XC90. Sovereign Auto Sales just posted a 2016 Volvo XC90 T6 SUV for sale this week at such an affordable price that we knew we had to show it to you here. What makes it so powerful is the twin supercharged 2.0 Liter 4 cylinder engine along with all-wheel-drive. This one also has the Vision Package with blind spot monitoring. It looks so clean that it will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. Their asking price is $16,495.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
1986 Corvette Z51 | $16,995 | Tampa, FL |
1998 Lincoln Mark VIII LSC | $14,995 | Tampa, FL |
1997 Camaro Z28 Convt | $17,995 | Tampa, FL |

Sold Thru Cars On Line
Here are some of the comments from happy sellers who were nice enough to tell us about their experience advertising on the Cars On Line website.
A New Jersey car guy had posted his interesting 1980 Camaro which he built into an SS (not available from the factory that year.) He was highlighted in our PRICE REDUCED feature a few weeks ago. He just notified us that he SOLD it through his Cars-On-Line ad.
Mopars lovers may have missed this one. Brian from Dobbs Ferry, NY notified us that his 1965 Dodge Hemi Coronet AFX is now SOLD. Yes, he told us it was sold as a result of his Cars-On-Line ad.
A Ford collector from Pennsylvania notified us that he had SOLD his 1967 Ford Fairlane through a Cars-On-Line ad. Given that it had only 39k original miles, it was an interesting listing.
An Idaho woman told us she SOLD her 1974 Ford F-250 Pickup through her Cars-On-Line ad. This one was a low mile example with upgrades.
Although he did not get a direct sale, a Tennessee advertiser told us he was able to trade his 2023 Corvette for several vehicles through his Cars-On-Line ad. Nice.
