Here Hemi, Hemi, Hemi
Not to be outdone in the big block wars of 1970, Chevrolet introduced their best “grocery getter” of all time when they came out with the Chevelle SS LS6 with the monster 454 ci V8 engine that produced 450 horsepower from the factory. For sheer cubic inch dominance Chevy was able to subdue even the elephantine Hemi’s of Mopar setting up the greatest grudge races of all time at local drag strips.
This week, Classic Car Deals, a classic car broker, has listed a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS LS6 Convertible for sale. They say this is a legit LS6 convertible, one of the rarest finds in the muscle car world. This listing will send ripples through the collector car world. (Follow this link to view more photos.) Experts have told us that there may have been less than 100 of these cars built. (No one seems to know for sure.) They also claim that only about 26 of the LS6 convertibles still exist.
Classic Car Deals tell us this LS6 Chevelle convertible comes from Tennessee. It has the real LS6 512 block with 4 bolt mains. It also has an M-22 Rock Crusher 4-speed transmission and cowl induction hood. You will also note that it has power disc brakes, power Steering, 6500 redline tach, power top, 3.31 posi 12 bolt axle, 15″ tires, Muncie original shifter, power windows, tinted glass, power locks, and paint astro blue paint with white stripes. In addition, they say it has the correct heads and intake manifold, an 850 cfm Holley carburetor, and 1/2″ and 3/4″ plugs over oil filter indicate 4 bolt block.
They say it is a real pleasure to drive. Researching this one should keep you going throughout the holidays. You’ll want to follow up on this one.

This Weeks Featured Stories
1953 Muntz Jet
Here is a rare collector car with a great story behind it. This 1953 Muntz Jet is one of those orphan cars that was a great idea and pushed the innovative development of automotive manufacturing in America. Earl “Mad Man” Muntz was a colorful character who made a fortune in marketing and advertising. He wanted to build a car company so he bought the Kurtis Sports Car design and began manufacturing the Kurtis styled Muntz Jet, a performance luxury convertible between 1951 and 1954. They reportedly built just 394 of these Muntz Jets before the company had to shut down. This 1953 edition is being offered for sale this week at Ellingson Motorcar of Rogers, Minnesota. Click here to view an interesting walk-around video full of historic references.
Studebaker Wagonaire
Classic station wagons are very popular in the collector car market. Here is one of the rarest ever made in America. This is a 1965 Studebaker Commander Wagonaire with super low miles. The Wagonaire is significant for its innovative “sliding roof”. The whole rear roof panel slides open to allow incredible cargo capacity. You could get a giant Christmas tree in the back of one of these wagons. Studebaker only made 685 of these Wagonaires. They say this one has just 18,000 miles and is super clean as you can imagine for a low mile classic like this one. Click here to watch an interesting video and see how that roof works. You’ll find dozens of detailed photos at the link.
Reutter Porsche 356
Talk about a much sought after classic sports car. This is a 1952 Porsche 356 Cabriolet, a Pre-A edition designated as a 1500 S. What makes it even more special is that it was prepped by Reutter, the master German coachworks. The 356 was the first model Reutter was involved with for Porsche. The one you see here is being offered for sale at Beverly Hills Car Club in Los Angeles. With the gorgeous Stawberry Red and sand beige interior, the vehicle comes with a 4-speed manual transmission, 1500 Flat 4 engine, dual carburetors, steel wheels and chrome hubcaps. They say it comes with a certificate of authenticity and its Kardex. These classic examples are hard to find in this market. This one is an early production Pre-A that may surprise you.
