1956 Chevrolet Nomad Wagon

Nomad for 1956

Best of the Tri Fives

Chevy collectors know life began at Chevrolet in 1955 when the Bel Air got a huge facelift and the results were so spectacular that Chevrolet sold 1.8 million cars between the 150, 210 and Bel Air trim models, record breaking sales for the automotive industry at the time. The 1955, 1956 and 1957 Bel Air models are known in automotive history as the “Tri Fives.” The most popular of the Tri Fives is the 1957 (America’s car) followed by the 1955. The 1956 Bel Air was a beautiful car but most collectors give it the back seat to the ’57 and ‘55’s. Except for one model variation. When it comes to the Bel Air Nomad the 1956 stands out. There is something about the ’56 Bel Air trim and bumpers that just works on the Nomad.

Here is a 1956 Chevrolet Nomad Wagon that was just listed for sale this week by a private party seller from Traverse City, Michigan. You can see all the photos in his Slide Show ad at the link here. He calls it a full classic custom restoration with all the chrome and the trim totally redone. The lift gatte was sent out and totally rebuilt. There are many custom upgrades on this LS based Nomad. You might consider it to be a restomod.

The seller says the car was finished in December of 2015. It has only 3,000 miles on it since the redo. No expense was spared. A complete disassembly was done, new sheet metal where it was necessary and the car is equipped with a big cool radiator, AC condenser, stainless steel handbuilt exhaust system, Soundsystem.

Classic Car News This Week

Future Collectibles

About a year ago we did an article on cars that are ripe to escalate in value in today’s collector car market. The story carved out some of the specialty cars and muscle cars that have not gotten as much respect as prices surged during the past two decades. In this article we think we got it right when we noted the emerging popularity of the 1969-1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1. If we learned anything recently it is that the first generation Mach 1’s are some of the best looking muscle cars ever produced, and we are talking about the M Code 351 Clevelands (of course, the Cobra Jet Mach 1’s have been at nose bleed prices for decades now.) You can still get them at reasonable prices today. But prices are already going up on M Codes as you read this. Click here to read the report on the Top Ten Collector Cars Sure to Appreciate in Value.

Historic Ferrari

The only 1962 Ferrari GTO to be raced by the Scuderia Team will be offered for sale at an RM Sotheby’s Auction in November. The build up to the sale has begun. Last week there was a CNBC news item about it. Another 1962 Ferrari GTO was auctioned off by RM Sotheby’s in 2018 for $48 million. That was the record highest sale ever at the time (which has since been broken.) The sale happened at an RM Auction during Monterey Car Week as a prelude to the Pebble Beach Concours in 2018. RM Sotheby’s estimates that this 1962 Ferrari GTO (seen here in No.7 livery) might bring as high as $60 million. It won the race at the Nurburgring and was driven by Lorenzo Bandini for Scuderia at the 24 Hours of Lemans. There were 36 GTO Ferraris built in 1962 with only 250 built in all years. You will be hearing more about this upcoming sale as we draw closer to the November sale date.

Street Beast

They call it the “Street Beast” and it looks like it lives up to the name. A 1934 Ford Hot Rod was listed for sale this week by North Shore Classics in Mundelein, Illinois. The body is by Innovative Street Machines. But the engine is a 350 Chevy small block with 6-71 blower and Holley carbs. It’s built to show and drive with TH-400 automatic transmission, 3.73 gears and Mustang rear end. There are even air shocks in the rear. Driveability is enhanced with 4-wheel disc brakes, power steering, power brakes with Hydroboost, rack n pinion steering and coil over front suspension with tubular A-arms. Note the 17” Shelby Cobra wheels. And this one is affordably priced, a whole lotta’ hot rod for the money.

Ford F-350 XLT

When you do off-roadin’ you have to have the right equipment. That means everything has to be built right. So check out this jacked 1995 Ford F-350 XLT being offered for sale at Cassandra’s Motorsports in Pewaukee, Wisconsin this week. It almost looks too pretty to get dirty. It is a show truck as well as a “go” truck. Look at the photos and you will see that it has been driven, but cleans up real nice afterwards. The Dark Lapis metallic paint shows well in the photos. It has a 7.5L V8 Fuel Injected with 16 valves. Check out the photos. The suspension looks all new. This truck also is affordably priced.

Collector Cars with Low Miles

1950 Cadillac Series 62

Talk about an amazing survivor! Here is a 1950 Cadillac Series 62 Sedan with only 26,000 miles. It is being offered for sale at Connors Motorcar Company in West Chester, Pennsylvania. They say it is totally rust free, and presents well in its Cypress Green paint, gleaming chrome and trim, and immaculate gray broadcloth interior. They say the 331 ci V8 engine whispers smoothly as it powers a 4-speed hydra-matic automatic transmission.

Here are more recent Low Miles additions:

1971 Lincoln Mark III, Connors Motorcar Co, PA, 7k original miles

1979 Cadillac Sedan DeVille, Vanguard Motor Sales, MI, 12k orig mi

2003 Mercury Marauder from Phoenix, AZ, 16,800 miles

Project Vehicles for Restoration

1932 Rolls-Royce Pullman

I think you’ll agree that this 1932 Rolls-Royce Pullman Limousine is a prime vintage motorcar which deserves to be restored. It was just listed for sale this week by Gullwing Motor Cars in New York. The coachwork is by Barker. They say it has a nice straight body with decent panel and door fitment. It was lost in storage for many years. Could it be worth six figures when it is done? For a very low cost here is your chance to find out.

The following are just some of the cars available in the Project Car Section this week:

Price Reduced

1932 Ford 5-Window

A Minnesota hot rodder dropped the price on his 1932 Ford 5-Window Coupe yesterday. Take a look at the interior on this one. Very nice. The black Deuce Coupe has a 3 1/2″ chop, original boxed frame, 8″ Ford rear end w/355 gears, Super Ride IFS, 4-wheel power disc brakes and just the right wheels for this look. He was asking $75,000 for this premium show car type build. But yesterday he lowered the price to $60,000. Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about.

Deals of the Day

1972 Buick LeSabre

A big luxury 1972 Buick LeSabre Convertible was just listed for sale at Classic & Collectible Cars of Las Vegas where they are wheelin & dealin like the casinos. Proof of that is the price on this black Buick. With 75,000 miles recorded on the odometer, it is said to be “straight,” and “rust free” with a clean older paint and original interior. They say it runs great. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday because the asking price is $18,000. See what I mean?

1925 Oldsmobile Model D

Well you won’t find many of these running around anymore. Here is a 1925 Oldsmobile Model D Sedan being offered for sale by a private party seller in California. He says this vintage car runs great, and was a former movie car. He affirms in the ad that it has new tires, all new wiring, no mechanical issues, and what he calls a good interior. He says the body is in good shape, with no rust. This was the last model to be designed at Oldsmobile before they became a part of GM. It will be our Deal of the Day on Sunday. The asking price is $10,000.

1965 Corvair

Classical Gas Motors out of Texas has come up with an interesting 1965 Chevrolet Corvair Monza for sale. It has the 164 ci, 2.7L engine. They say it only has about 47k miles on it. They say the 6 cylinder motor runs and starts well. We suggest having a pre-purchased inspection done before you buy to eliminate surprises. But hurry. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. Their price: $12,500.

2006 Pontiac Solstice

We love these little Pontiac sports convertibles and it is a blast to see how inexpensive they are right now. This 2006 Pontiac Solstice is being offered for sale through Laguna Classic Cars in California. They tell us it is a low mileage, one-owner with a clean CarFax. Click here to view a walk-around video and test drive. Andy from Laguna Classic Cars will tell you it “runs and drives as great as it looks.” It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday. I think you will agree that this is a lotta’ car for the money. They are asking $10,995.

1938 Chevrolet Tudor

Chances are this one will be sold before you can even get to the phone. This 1938 Chevrolet Tudor has a newer straight 6 cylinder engine hooked up to an 350 Turbo automatic transmission. They Illinois seller says it is a nice clean car with no rust. It looks great in street rod black primer. As always you should have it inspected before you buy. But hurry. This one will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday. The asking price is $10,500.

1975 VW Beetle Convertbile

A really nice 1968 VW Dune Buggy was just posted for sale by Hanksters Hot Rods in South Daytona, Florida. Most dune buggies you see show heavy use but this one cleans up real well. Check out the photos at the link. Then watch a detailed walk-around video inspection at this link. Lots of chrome to view and enjoy. Also note the Ridler wheels. It has 4-wheel disc brakes and racing seats with racing harnasses. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. Their asking price is $21,900.

Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:

1978 Cadillac Seville$19,500Las Vegas, NV
1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass Salon$16,800Staunton, IL
1987 GMC Caballero$16,990California
