Beautiful Muscle Car
All muscle car enthusiasts seem to agree that the 1971 Plymouth Cuda was very possibly the most beautiful muscle car design of all time. Perfect from its gills in the front to its muscular haunches in the back, the billboard Cudas are a one-of-a-kind rendering for the ages.
A California Mopar collector listed this Curious Yellow 1971 Plymouth Cuda 340 for sale this week. It is an excellent example of how special these ’71 Cudas are. He says it is numbers matching throughout with two broadcast sheets, an original window sticker and documentation going back to the original owner from Pasadena in 1971. The two original fender tags are still in place. They say there may have been a repaint in the 1990’s. It even has ice cold air conditioning.
Although everyone wants to talk about the big block Mopars these days, you have to remember that the quickest E-Body cars were the small block 340 ci V8s. The HiPo 340 small block engine was so popular among Mopar buyers that more 340’s were sold than any other engine configuration. The HiPo 340 V8 was only available in the E-Body for that one year. By 1972 they dropped the compression on the 340 motor. So, many collectors feel that the ’71 Cuda was the last read muscle car.
The 1971 Plymouth Cuda 340 was rated at 275 horsepower. And while the Hemi cars would turn in comparable quarter-mile times, the 340 cars were definitley faster in 1/8-mile spurts.

Classic Car News This Week
Future Collectibles
Our newsletter readers know that we like to spot trends for you in the current collector car market. Here in the U.S. the Mitsubishi 3000GT was produced from 1991 through 1999. The same car was produced in Japan between 1990 and 2000. There it was called the Mitsubishi GTO. It was a low cost exotic car that really had the performane to back it up. These cars can still be purchased rather affordably. This 1991 Mitsubishi 3000GT is being offered for sale this week by MGM Classic Cars in Illinois. The asking price is only $27,500. We are seeing some of these cars turn up in collector car auctions recently and getting much higher prices than this. That usually happens just before the values start to increase. They say only about 15,500 were ever produced. They may be ripe for collectors in the near future.

Camaro Inspection
One of our clients wanted us to inspection a 1969 Camaro RS/SS 396 tribute. The car takes a nice photo and actually runs out rea nice, according to the inspector. However he did run into a good amount of bondo and bad paint on this car. There was also some dirt caught in the paint which showed poor prep work. It was probably a quick repaint. You can read the whole sample report here at this link.
It is always a good idea to have our inspection service look at a car for you before you buy it. Buying site unseen is never a good idea. Click here to find out more about the Cars-On-Line Inspection Service. While you’re there you can read more sample inspection reports.

1969 Nova SS L78
Drag racers had been shoehorning big blocks into the little Chevy Nova since the mid-1960’s.But it was something of a surpise when Chevrolet changed the body style in 1968, and started putting big blocks in them from the factory. Here is a rare 1969 Chevy Nova SS with the L78 396/375 horsepower motor. It is being offered for sale this week by Classic Car Marketing in Southern California. They say there may be only 2,000 miles on the car since a restoration in the 1990s. They say it is numbers matching with correct stampings on the block and heads. Only 5,262 Novas were produced with the L78 option in 1969. This is one of them.
Rare Model A Depot Hack
Here is an opportunity for a collector to acquire a rare Model A Ford that has pedigree and provenance. Back in the 1920’s the J.H. Schurmeier-Whitney Company produced depot hacks with Model A Fords. This 1928 Ford Model A with a Shurmeier-Whiteney custom body was just listed for sale in the classic Ford Section of the Cars-On-Line.com website. The owner is the actual great great Grandson of John H Schurmeier, founder of the coachbuilding company. He says the rare Model A has been restored to its original build. It has undergone a complete frame-off restoration right down to every bolt, bearing and bushing. It is not often that a collector will get a chance to get this close to a vehicle’s origins.
