1st Gen Corvette
The jury was still out when Chevrolet’s 1954 Corvette showed up in dealer showrooms across the U.S. Did it fullfill the pent up demand for a two-seater sports car in the American landscape? There is no doubt the ’54 model made some improvements over the first-year 1953 Corvettes. It had a revised grille, new exterior colors, and a more powerful engine. However, the new car buyer response was only luke warm. Just 3,640 units were produced, which showed GM’s hesitant support for the program. But those shallow numbers make it a rare collectible today. They did not know what we know now, that the Corvette would be one of the most enduring legacies of any automotive brand.
A private party seller from New York is offering his 1954 Corvette Convertible for sale in Pennant Blue. The power comes from an inline 6 cylinder engine paired with a two-speed automatic transmission. They added triple Carter carburetors for a little more power. It comes with a soft top and push-button radio. This American icon is in really clean condition from what we can see in the photos.
The 1954 Corvette with its unique use of a fiberglass body was both eye-catching and distinctive. Its sleek profile was something completely new for car buyers. Although it had limited success on the race track, it did well enough to establish its brand for future generations. There was enough interest to make it till 1955 when Chevrolet introduced a small block V8.
Because too few were produced, the 1954 Corvette is a great car to collect. When you consider the condition, this one is worth having inspected. It will always have collector value.

Classic Car News This Week
Iola 2023
One of the top car shows in the country, Iola 2023, is happening as you read this in tiny Iola, Wisconsin, the home of the Old Cars Weekly magazine. This little Wisconsin community will be overrun by 120,000 collectors and spectators from all over the Midwest and Canada this weekend. It is one of the largest swap meets in the world with 4,200 vendor spots on 300 acres of grassy slopes. It takes days just to go through the parts meet. In addition, there will be 2,200 cars on display. Even more will be for sale in the car corral. If you come to this show, plan to spend the weekend. There is just too much to see in one day.
For more top car show venues and dates, you should check Cars-On-Line’s Car Show Calendar of Events. You can bookmark your favorites and plan you summer vacations around them.

Auction Results
One trend we are seeing at big national auctions recently is concerning. It opened our eyes when a 1941 Cadillac Series 62 Sedan sold at the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Las Vegas two weekends ago for $10k. We mention this not to impugn the Barrett-Jackson, because this has been happening at top auctions all over the country including the Mecum Auctions. Cars are not selling at quite the high prices we are used to anymore. It seems the market may have turned a page. One well informed collector told us, “Nothing is selling over $50,000 anymore. You can’t get a bid.” While that might be over stating the facts, the point is that there seem to be a lot more cars not meeting reserve at auctions, or selling at prices that might disappoint the sellers. No longer are prices going up in a straight line on high profile cars. We may be seeing a chill in pricing. Let’s keep an eye on this.

Shelby GT350
There were big changes in the making for the Shelby Mustang in 1968. Ford had taken over production of the popular American sports car, and the Shelby became a more refined car than the raw race car production system employed at Shelby American on Carroll Shelby’s watch. Here is an Acapulco Blue 1968 Shelby GT350 Fastback being offered for sale at the Classic Auto Mall in Morgantown, Pennsylvania. It has the C4 3-speed automatic transmission and a Ford 9” rear axle. But it has a Ford 302 ci V8 engine, the first year Ford came out with the powerful small block V8. Whereas Shelby would have tweaked them to higher horsepower, Ford left the factory V8 alone and it produced about 250 hp. Check out all the photos, from the undercarriage to the miles deep paint. This one is in driver quality condition so it has a fairly affordable price. Check it out.
1962 Impala SS 409
The Chevrolet Impala was a complete new redesign for 1962, and to this day Chevrolet fans still treasure the ’62 over other bodies. The fresh new look was very popular and became Chevrolet’s best selling model of the era. Not only the attractive design, but the range of options made it a popular choice for consumers. One of those options was the SS 409 package which meant power and performance for a younger generation of buyers. This is a Romon Red 1962 Chevrolet Impala SS 409 Convertible which is being offered for sale at Streetside Classics in Charlotte, North Carolina. Of the 2 million Impalas produced that year only about 100,000 were thought to be Super Sports, and only about 15,000 of the SS’s were equipped with the 409. Click here to view a walk-around video

1972 Camaro Resto Mod
Have today’s Resto Mod muscle cars taken the place of the street machine from back in the day? Today’s more refined resto mods and pro touring cars have a sophistication that exceeds what we could even dream of 20 years ago. But there is nothing like the heart pumping exhilaration of a mean spirited street machine. Here is a video that shows a Canadian built 1972 Camaro Resto Mod with the heart of an old school street machine. With show quality interior and appearance, just lick the video window above to hear that Lunati Voodoo cam and you will be immediately enthralled with this “bad to the bone” muscle car. And its for sale. The private party seller does an excellent job of combining all the elements that make a great sales video. We applaud the effort for this fresh new listing.

1969 Cadillac DeVille
The big 1969 Cadillac DeVille Convertible was at the top of its game in ’69. This Cordovan example came with a white top, power options and air conditioning. That is probably why this one has only 43k original miles. Find out more when you read the ad by Fast Lane Classic Cars and view their walk-around video.

They are actually offering a three-month 500 miles warrantly plan which is extendable. This Tasco Turquoise color was added at some point an the truck is now powered by a 283 V8. 1951 Chevy Sedan Delivery
If you can find one most of the early ‘50s Sedan Deliveries are in rough shape and in need of restoration. But here is the exception. Country Classic Cars in Staunton, Illinois just posted this 1951 Chevy Sedan Delivery for sale in our Custom Cars Section. You have to take a look at the photos to see the amazing custom wood interior they did on this car. Now that’s over the top. Click here to view a walk-around video, also. This is a one-of-a-kind even for a Sedan Delivery. Sitting on a ’96 Camaro front end, the Chevy classic has 4-wheel disc brakes and a Turbo 350 automatic transmission. There is plenty of power in the small block 327 ci V8 because of the 4-barrel carburetor. It has Vintage heat and air. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The asking price is $26,500.
1956 Chevrolet Bel Air
Another interesting offering from Country Classic Cars is this black 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air 4-Door. They describe it as a cruiser dressed in all black with tinted windows and sitting on Rally wheels. Powered by a 350 ci V8, it is mated to an automatic transmission and comes with Vintage air which blows cold. In excellent condition, they say it runs and drives well. Look down the sides. Pretty straight for a black car. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday. Their asking price is $26,500.
1960 Triumph TR3
Time does this to any late model sports car. They get cheaper as they get older (until they become collectible, that is.) So we have been watching these BMW Z3’s as they have been aging. This week a 1998 BMW Z3 sports convertible was listed for sale at Cassandra’s Motorsports in Pewaukee, Wisconsin. This is a very desirable little two-seater sports car in Turquoise Green with a brown leather interior. The transmission is a 4-speed automatic. Doesn’t it look great in the photos? It features power operated seats, ABS brakes and dual airbags. The exterior is known for its signature kidney-shaped grille and round headlights. A true sports roadster, it comes with BMW German engineering. This might be the sports car you’ve always dreamed of, and it comes at an affordable price. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Tuesday. The asking price is $7,995.
2003 BMW Z4 Roadster
Following up on the BMW Z series sports car two-seaters, here is its successor a 2003 BMW Z4 Roadster being offered for sale at the Classic Auto Mall in Morgantown, Pennsylvania. This sharp looking roadster is being offered at a very affordable price point, one we have never seen offered before. They have it on consignment from its first owner who has the title verified at 68,594 actual miles. It comes with a new top with new pump/motor and new front header panel. It has been Pennsylvania state safety and emission tested. It has a 3.0 liter inline 6 cylinder engine mated to a ZF 5-speed transmission. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Wednesday. Their asking price is $14,900.
