When They’re Hot!
It is interesting to follow the trends of how a collector car gets “hot” in the hobby car market. We’ve all had that experience at a classic car auction when a particular car or truck sells for an outrageous amount and all of a sudden we spot a trend starting in the market. Early first generation Ford Broncos started just such a trend some years ago with all other sport utilities following. Broncos were the ultimate off-road vehicle back in the day, and they still are today.
This week there is a 1967 Ford Bronco for sale by a private collector in Pennsylvania. He said he got the truck out of New Mexico, and when they blasted the metal panels the result was a shiny silver surface as though it were new sheet metal. No signs of rust. The “dustless blasting” technician said he’d never seen that before. This Bronco is a U-150 that was designated a Wagon by Ford. (They also had a Roadster and a Half-Cab Model completing the U-100 lineup.) The Wagons had a removable top and doors, and the front windshield folded down. The seller says it has mostly original body and equipment. It has the rebuilt original 289 ci V8 motor. The paint is a Sikkens version of the original Peacock Blue all buffed out and lazer straight. The seller says even the glass is all original all around.
Because these vehicles are for off-roading, they added a 2 1/2-inch lift by Tom’s Broncos with HD suspension and Bilstein shocks. It also has a fresh interior.
Watching these Broncos at collector auctions around the country, we noticed that in 2016 you could buy a 1966-72 Bronco for about $24,000. But by 2018 that price had doubled. Then in 2021 we were at the Carlisle Auction in Pennsylvania when a restored off-roadin’ Bronco sold for over $100,000. It amazed everyone that was there. It opened our eyes as to how the market was trending on early Ford Broncos. Among collectors, the early Ford Broncos are the best for real off-roadin’.

1957 Ford E-Bird
This factory Starmist Blue 1957 Ford Thunderbird is a very special classic T-Bird. That’s because this one came with the high performance E-Code 312 ci V8 engine with the dual quad carbureters. It is being offered for sale at Classical Gas Motors. Advanced for its time, Ford’s dual quad carburetors produced 270 horsepower in this little sports car. The E-Code motor had a larger bore, longer stroke and higher compression ratio. It even had automatic choke. Of the 21,380 Thunderbirds produced in 1957, only 1,363 had the E-Code performance option. This one has had a beautiful frame off restoration to the point where it has won numerous “Best of …” awards. Classical Gas says it achieved a 100 point concours judging, and has been meticulously maintained. Click here to watch a walk-around video and hear it run.
McLaren Supercar
Born to race, every McLaren supercar is forged from the metal of competition. Not just a tame street version, this 2017 McLaren 570S Coupe comes with a Sport tuned adaptive suspension. It even has side impact beams built into its body structure. The 3.8 Liter V8 produces 560 horsepower accentuating the look with specially designed sport forged wheels. It has both electronic stability control and roll stability control. This beautiful exotic car is being offered for sale this week at Verrillo Motor Car Company in New York. They say it has just 1,600 miles, hardly broken in. Still smells as new. The Ice Silver color is a very rare finish.

Collector Cars with Low Miles
1949 Ford Club Coupe
You might say the new Ford redesign in 1949 was a success. Gone were the big fenders and running boards. The sleeker look with clean slab-sided quarter panels was an innovation, very forward looking for its time. We have a 1949 Ford Club Coupe in the Ford Section today which was listed by Classic Auto Mall in Pennsylvania. This new body style was so popular that it boosted Ford to Number One among automotive manufacturers that year. This one is significant because it is said that it still has only 25,897 miles on it.
Here are more recent Low Miles additions:
1985 Corvette, Ideal Classic Cars, FL, 12k original miles
1992 Corvette Convertible, Orlando Classic Cars, FL, 12k miles

Project Vehicles for Restoration
Chevrolet 210 Station Wagon
They started the restoration on this 1957 Chevrolet 210 Station Wagon, but it must pass to a new owner to finish it. Even though it is in the restoration process, Classic Auto Mall tells us it runs well and can be driven while finishing. Check out the photos on the ad page. Rust is in the door bottoms as well as the tailgate. Some of the chrome needs to be redone. For the right buyer, this will be a joy to restore, and well worth the effort to have a 4-door wagon like this one.

1940 Mercury Eight
What a rare find! A 1940 Mercury Eight Tudor Sedan was listed for sale by Classic Auto Mall in Morgantown, Pennsylvania. If you haven’t visited Classic Auto Mall you should put it on your bucket list. It is a converted shopping mall, now functioning as a collector car museum. This Mercury has a hard-to-find body style for 1940. It is a project car that has been in long-term storage. The paint is rough in spots. It will need a special person to take it over since it will have to be brought back to life. Classic Auto Mall did verify that the engine will turn over by cranking it. It has the 239 ci V8 Flathead with a Holley 2-barrel carburetor. Naturally it has a 3-speed on the column manual transmission. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. This rare Mercury is offered for $25,000.
