Camaro RS SS Convertible. I recently bought this car from a gentleman that has owned it for the last 32 years. He has had the car in storage since the early eighties. He purchased the car from the original owner and recieved a lot of original paperwork with the car.
The interesting thing about the car is that it was built for the GM central office. As shown on the warranty folder. Either built for a GM executive or used as a factory show car. The car was not sold to the first general public owner until 3/20/1968 1968. I dont have all the answers to what the car was used for but I have asked many Camaro experts and they all agree that this is a special Camaro. It looks just like a 1967 Pace car the only difference is black stripe and top.
The car is packed with options, power windows, tilt wheel, 4 speed, factory tach, console with gauges, and disc brakes. It also originally had headrests on the seats but the first owner tossed them.
The car is in amazing condition for being stored that long. This car needs no panel replacement. Even the core support , inner fenders ,floors and trunk are nice .the body is super solid. The car was painted with laquer years ago it looks good from 10 feet away but it needs some attention as the paint is peeling on the hood ( see picture)and some checking on the trunk lid but is still very presentable.
The interior is original except for the carpet and the front seat covers have been replace and look new.
Top was replaced a few years before it went into storage and still looks new. Even the power top motor still works great.
The car still retains its original 350 295hp engine and m20 4spd trans. The engine runs nice with no smoke or noise. The trans shifts like it should nice and smooth. The car drives nice and is tight.
The original 12 bolt rear end with the factory traction bar.
Front disc brakes. New 4 piston calipers
Original rally 14x7 rally wheels . Tires are old.
All the gauges work even the tach. The power windows all work.
Headlights also open and close
All in all a real nice original car with super documentation and a very interesting history. With a little homework you could find out what the car was really used for . The dealer that sold it (Ed Rinke Chevrolet) is still in business.
